These devices are typically located along the roadside and are controlled by operators in the Fredericksburg District which aids them in monitoring and managing conditions. Examples include traffic controllers for the traffic signal system, vehicle detection, and video image detection systems (VID). Approximately 25% of the District's signals are equipped with VIDs and the remainder uses loops. CCTV coverage along primary routes are planned.

  2. The field element shall collect, process, and send traffic images to the center for further analysis and distribution.
  3. The field element shall return sensor and CCTV system operational status to the controlling center.
Roadway Signal Controls
  1. The field element shall control traffic signals at intersections and on main highways for urban and rural areas, under center control.
  2. The field element shall return traffic signal controller operational status to the controlling center.
  3. The field element shall return traffic signal controller fault data to the maintenance center for repair.
