Virginia State Police

Definition:

The Virginia State Police provides state law enforcement and operate dispatch centers to respond to emergencies. Responsible for operating Virginia State Police Centers. Includes Computer Aided Dispatch database, which collects incident/emergency detection, dispatch, response, and status information related to the Virginia State Police officers/equipment. Performed out of division offices. Also responsible for Virginia State Police vehicles.

Roles and Responsibilities:

    Emergency Management
    • Supports coordination of evacuation plans among federal state and local transportation, emergency and law enforcement agencies that may be involved in a large scale evacuation
    • Provide emergency response plans or event plans
    • Coordinates evacuation plans among allied agencies and manages evacuation and reentry of population in teh vicinity of a disaster or other emergency that poses as a risk to security
    • Conduct offensive operations to mitigate a hazardous material emergency
    • Performs receiving mayday messages and security alarms, determines an appropriate response, and either uses internal resources or contacts a local agency to provide that response

    Freeway and Corridor Management
    • Coordinate with STC for incident reponse and management
    • Respond to incidents on VDOT interstates

    Incident Management
    • Provide CAD integration with regional traffic managemnet agencies and ISPs (such as VTTI clearinghouse for 511)
    • Respond to incident reports on VDOT interstates and Dulles Greenway
