Definition:
The VDOT Salem TOC is a nerve center of an integrated system of advanced technologies including computer software, traffic cameras, ramp meters. From the Salem TOC, VDOT monitors and manages traffic, recognizes and responds to incidents, and instantly delivers information to motorists. VDOT Southwestern Operations area Traffic Center is responsible for monitoring and managing traffic in Southwestern Operations area which includes Salem, Bristol and Lynchburg district construction areas. The Salem TOC can take over the operations in the NWRO Region in case of a major disaster via a center-to-center communication link.
