Definition:

The KDOT TOC Information Interactive Traveler Information service provides tailored information in response to a traveler request. Both real-time interactive request/response systems and information systems that "push" a tailored stream of information to the traveler based on a submitted profile are supported. The traveler can obtain current information regarding traffic conditions, roadway maintenance and construction, transit services, and detour information. A range of two-way wide-area wireless and fixed-point to fixed-point communications systems may be used to support the required data communications between the traveler and the KDOT TOC Information System. A variety of interactive devices may be used by the traveler to access information prior to a trip or en route including phone via the Kansas 511 system, kiosk, Personal Digital Assistant, personal computer, and a variety of in-vehicle devices. This service also allows value-added resellers to collect transportation information that can be aggregated and be available to their personal devices or remote traveler systems to better inform their customers of transportation conditions. Successful deployment of this service relies on availability of real-time transportation data from roadway instrumentation. A traveler may also input personal preferences for trip planning.
