Definition:
The VDOT TOCs/ATMS in CRO, NRO, ERO, NWRO, SWRO, and Statewide operate on the same ATMS which acts as the nerve center of an integrated system of advanced technologies including computer software, traffic cameras, ramp meters. From each of the VDOT TOCs/ATMS, VDOT monitors and manages traffic, recognizes and responds to incidents, and instantly delivers information to motorists. All of the VDOT TOCs/ATMS are responsible for monitoring and managing traffic in their assigned regional operations area. which includes their respective district construction areas. Any of the VDOT TOCs/ATMS can take over the operations in the ERO Region, or any other region, in case of a major disaster via the common ATMS platform from which they operate.
