NRO Local Transit Agencies
Definition:
NRO Local Transit Agencies provide basic transit service and paratransit service in Northern Virginia. It also includes Fredericksburg Regional Transit.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Emergency Management
- Notify travelers of emergency schedule information and fares
- Provide emergency transit service for evacuation and major emergencies
- Provide transit incident information to traffic management and public safety agencies
- Modify schedules if warranted due to incidents
- Provide schedule delay and incident information to travelers
- Coordinate schedule and service with WMATA and other transit agencies in the region
- Operate fixed route and demand responsive bus service in local jurisdictions in the NOVA region
- Provide real-time transit traveler information (on-time performance, schedule adherence etc) through various sources including websites, telephones and other personal information access services
- Provide static transit traveler information (schedules, ride guides etc) through various sources including websites, telephones and other personal information access services
- Provide the capability for transit buses to request transit signal priority through center to center communications
- Provide the capability for transit buses to request transit signal priority through short range communications directly with traffic control equipment
- Provide transit vehicle tracking functions using AVL technology and two way communications with fleet
