SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA
REGIONAL ITS ARCHITECTURE
This site provides an introduction to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and explains how a plan is
being developed to provide the architecture, or system organization and interconnection structure, for ITS
in the southeast portion of Nebraska.
The Southeast Nebraska Regional ITS Architecture will encompass all communities and interested organizations
within the following 13 counties in Southeast Nebraska: Butler, Saunders, Seward, Lancaster, Cass, Otoe,
Saline, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Jefferson, Pawnee and Richardson.
ITS uses modern information and communication technologies to mitigate congestion, enhance mobility, and
improve safety on roadways. The purpose of regional ITS architecture is to identify integrated systems
and opportunities for integration.
Click on ITS Applications for information about how ITS can enhance traffic signal systems, weather information
and other systems used by various road users. The Project Schedule shows the steps that will be taken to complete
the Regional ITS Architecture for southeast Nebraska. The web site also identifies Stakeholders in the project
and explains how you can participate in the development of the plan. Newsletters explain project purpose, goals,
and progress.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to provide an opportunity for agencies to plan, develop and deploy
ITS in a coordinated consistent manner. Public agencies and interested private entities and special
interest groups are encouraged to participate in the planning process. Benefits of a collaborative approach
to ITS include:
- Optimal use of funding
- Eliminate duplication of efforts
- Promote coordination with ITS in adjacent regions within Nebraska and beyond.
This web site for the Southeast Nebraska Regional ITS Architecture Project was established to encourage
easy access, timely review, and use of the documents and materials by project stakeholders.
Project stakeholder feedback is invaluable in developing an ITS Plan and Architecture that reflects
the transportation system vision for the southeast Nebraska Region. Iteris, Inc. is performing this
work effort under a contract with the City of Lincoln/MPO, in close consultation with the Federal Highway
Administration (FHWA), Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR), and Lancaster County.
