Service Graphic

Definition:

This service package manages work zones, controlling traffic in areas of the roadway where maintenance, construction, and utility work activities are underway. Traffic conditions are monitored using CCTV cameras and controlled using dynamic message signs (DMS), Highway Advisory Radio (HAR), gates and barriers. Work zone information is coordinated with other groups (e.g., TIC, traffic management, other maintenance, and construction centers). Work zone speeds and delays are provided to the motorist prior to the work zones. Advanced Work Zone Information is provided to the construction personnel and motorists within the immediate vicinity, potentially dangerous conditions are determined using sensors (e.g., video analytics, LiDAR) and the road users are notified through audible warning (i.e., siren), visual warning (i.e., strobe) and Connected Vehicle (CV) messaging directly to motorists. This service package provides control of field equipment in all maintenance and construction areas, including fixed, portable, and truck-mounted devices supporting both stationary and mobile work zones.
