I-64 HRBT Over Height Vehicle Detection System (OHVDS)
Project Description: Hampton Roads District Special Structures Office (HRSS) is enhancing over height vehicle detection in the 1–64 WB Tunnel approach. This system is being developed and implemented to enhancing efficiency in detecting and processing over height vehicles from entering the tunnel. The enhanced system comprises of 3D LIDAR for over height detection, Automated License Plate Reader Cameras (ALPR's) for Vehicle Identification , and Flashing Beacons and Dynamic Message Signs for messaging the drivers of over height vehicles. A standalone workstation at the Tunnel Control Room is used for OHVDs configuration, collation, and managing the system data.

2: The field element shall include infrastructure condition monitoring sensors that monitor the condition of pavement, bridges, tunnels, associated hardware, and other transportation-related infrastructure (e.g., culverts), under maintenance vehicle control.

1: The field element shall include dynamic message signs for dissemination of traffic and other information to drivers, under center control; the DMS may be either those that display variable text messages, or those that have fixed format display(s) (e.g. vehicle restrictions, or lane open/close).

1: The center shall collect the status and fault data from field equipment, such as traffic, infrastructure, and environmental sensors, highway advisory radio and dynamic message signs, automated roadway treatment systems, barrier and safeguard systems, cameras, traffic signals and override equipment, ramp meters, short range communications equipment, security sensors and surveillance equipment, etc..
