Description: The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) operates Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles commercial vehicle check field stations. This includes weigh–in–motion, credential check, and safety inspection/status systems. - Track results of roadside commercial vehicle inspections.
- Send roadside commercial vehicle inspection information including accident reports, violations, citations, and the daily site activity data to the commercial vehicle administration center.
- Exchange information concerning safety, credentialing, and operations of commercial vehicles between the center and the roadside check stations, across jurisdictions, with fleet operators and others who request information.
- Provide commercial vehicle safety and security criteria to roadside check facilities.
- Collect and review commercial vehicle safety and security data from the field.
- Distribute commercial vehicle safety and security information to other centers, carriers, and enforcement agencies.
- Perform roadside commercial vehicle checks of vehicles at mainline speeds - reading tag data, identification, weight and vehicle characteristics, and credential checking.
- Send pull-in messages, when appropriate, to commercial vehicles traveling at mainline speeds.
- Detect and measure the weight of commercial vehicles while traveling at high speeds via roadside check equipment.
