Project Description: Install Visibility Sensors, thermal CCTV's and Flashing Beacons every mile from the Charlotte County Line to Manatee County Line.

Project Functional Requirements (Element - Functional Object):

• FDOT District 1 Field Equipment - Roadway Basic Surveillance
• 2: The field element shall collect, process, and send traffic images to the center for further analysis and distribution.


• FDOT District 1 Field Equipment - Roadway Environmental Monitoring
• 2: The field element shall include environmental sensors that measure weather conditions including temperature, wind, humidity, precipitation, and visibility.
• 4: The field element's environmental sensors shall be remotely controlled by a traffic management center.

• 1: The field element shall include dynamic message signs for dissemination of traffic and other information to drivers, under center control; the DMS may be either those that display variable text messages, or those that have fixed format display(s) (e.g. vehicle restrictions, or lane open/close).

Roles and Responsibilities

• FDOT District 1
• Collect environmental information from its own field equipment, and from public and private weather service providers.
• Monitor traffic images and traffic flow data through CCTVs and field sensors, and maintain operational control of its own field equipment.
• Provide traffic information to travelers via private companies, the southwest Florida traveler information system, and county and city DMS equipment.
