vehicle entries and exits Quintuple

Bidirectional?: True

vehicle entries and exits (A-Interconnect): This CVRIA application interconnect encapsulates all of the Layer 2 information flows between two application objects: 'Roadway Payment Support', and 'RSE Low Emissions Zone Application'. In this case, there is only a single Layer 2 flow associated with this interconnect, so the Layer 1 application interconnect name and the Layer 2 information flow name are both 'vehicle entries and exits'. This application interconnect is bi-directional since the underlying layer 2 information flows carry data in both directions.

ITS Roadway Payment Equipment (Source Physical Object): 'ITS Roadway Payment Equipment' represents the roadway components of a toll collection system. It provides the capability for vehicle operators to pay tolls without stopping their vehicles. It supports use of locally determined pricing structures and includes the capability to implement various variable pricing policies. Typically, transactions are accompanied by feedback to the customer and a record of the transactions is provided to a back office system (e.g., the Payment Administration Center).

Roadway Payment Support (Source Application Object): "Roadway Payment Support" represents the equipment that works in conjunction with the RSE to detect vehicles and identify and process violators when the RSE is used to support electronic payment. Various fee structures and payment strategies are supported including strategies that support reimbursements or credits that incentivize desired driving behavior.

Roadside Equipment (Destination Physical Object): 'Roadside Equipment' (RSE) represents the Connected Vehicle roadside devices that are used to send messages to, and receive messages from, nearby vehicles using Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) or other alternative wireless communications technologies. Communications with adjacent field equipment and back office centers that monitor and control the RSE are also supported. This device operates from a fixed position and may be permanently deployed or a portable device that is located temporarily in the vicinity of a traffic incident, road construction, or a special event. It includes a processor, data storage, and communications capabilities that support secure communications with passing vehicles, other field equipment, and centers.

RSE Low Emissions Zone Application (Destination Application Object): "RSE Low Emissions Zone Application" provides information to vehicles regarding low emissions zones and checks vehicle profiles on entry to a designated low emissions zone to verify they are in compliance with the parameters established for the zone.
