ITS APPLICATIONS

Vehicle Control and Safety driver warning systems can provide multiple levels of automated driver warning and assistance. Systems includes sensors and vehicle controls that keep vehicles a safe distance apart in traffic, adjust speed in response to conditions, and help drivers see obstructions or hazards in poor lighting conditions.

Archived Data Management collected by ITS applications can provide information for use in monitoring and evaluating the performance and safety of the transportation system, fulfilling data reporting requirements, and other planning or operational functions. A subsystem can fuse ITS generated data with data from non-ITS sources and other archives.

An Archived Data Management Subsystem can be implemented in many different ways. It could reside within an operational center, or it could operate as a distinct center providing a general data warehouse service for a region.

Emergency Management services include agency systems that support incident management, public safety call taking and dispatch, disaster response and evacuation, and security monitoring. An ITS subsystem can prepare for and respond to identified emergencies, interfacing with other emergency management systems to support coordinated emergency response involving multiple agencies. It can monitor alerts, advisories, and other threat information.
