Definition:The Early Warning System service monitors and detects potential, looming, and actual disasters including natural disasters (hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, winter storms, tsunamis, etc.) and technological and man-made disasters (hazardous materials incidents, nuclear power plant accidents, and acts of terrorism including nuclear, chemical, biological, and radiological weapons attacks. The service monitors alerting and advisory systems, KDOT ITS sensors and surveillance systems, field reports, and the Wichita area emergency call-taking systems to identify emergencies and notifies all responding agencies of detected emergencies.
