CVRIA Glossary
Data Acceptance Criteria
Criteria describing the data a core or support system accepts as part of a Data Distribution service. Includes data type, source type, location and time criteria.
Data Consumer
1) A user or system that is receiving or using data from another user or system.
2) A phsyical object or system element that registers with and subsequently requests and receives delivery of data from a data distribution system or data warehouse.
Data Dictionary Entry (DDE)
Every data flow included in the functional view of the Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture is defined in a data dictionary entry (dde). Each data dictionary entry contains a textual description of the data flow and identifies any lower level data elements that make up the data flow.
Data Flow
Representations of data flowing between processes or between a process and an external physical object (or terminator) in the functional view of the Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture (CVRIA). A data flow is defined in a data dictionary entry in the functional view. Data flows are aggregated together to form high-level information flows in the physical view.
Data Provider
1) Anphysical object or system element that registers with and subsequently deposits data into a data distribution system or data warehouse
2) A System User that is supplying or transmitting data to another user or system. A data provider is likely to be an aggregator of data.
Data Store
A data store represents a reservoir in which data can be held for an indefinite period. Data stores are used in the functional view where data repositories are required to support data aggregation or archival services.
Data Warehouse
Also known as a Data Distribution System (DDS). A data storage facility that supports the input (deposit) and retrieval (delivery) of clearly defined data objects. This can be designed and implemented in a variety of ways, including publish/subscribe and a traditional query based database.
Decrypt
To convert unreadable, encrypted data to readable, decrypted data using a decryption algorithm and a key. See Encrypt.
Deployability
Able to be deployed in existing roadway environments, without requiring replacement of existing systems in order to provide measurable improvements.
Digital Certificate or Signature
An electronic "identification card" that establishes your credentials when doing business or other transactions on the Web. It is issued by a certification authority. It contains your name, a serial number, expiration dates, a copy of the certificate holder's public key (used for encrypting messages and digital signatures), and the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority so that a recipient can verify that the certificate is real. Note: From the SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security Institute - www.sans.org website.
DNS (Domain Name System)
The internet protocol for mapping host names, domain names and aliases to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
